It is Christmas and there are shower and ice rain outside right now in my area. I guess God wants to bring Australia some snow :)) It is strange to have ice rain in Christmas but it helps cooling down the temperature which I really like in these hot summer days. Nevertheless, it is sad when seeing the rain in a holiday.

Today I have to go to Phở Hùng Vương in Footscray to have brunch with my classmate-housemate Eddy because most of shops closed early yesterday and we could not buy noodles for our usual meal. Anyway, eating out sometimes, especially Vietnamese food, is good and I enjoy it. I had a Huế Beef Noodle at that restaurant and it was okay. However, I would recommend Cố Đô restaurant, another Vietnamese & Chinese Cuisine in 196 Victoria St, Abbotsford (near North Richmond railway station) if you guys want to have the original taste of Huế Beef Noodle. There are also some nice restaurants in that area for you to discover as well. I used to live in Abbotsford for one month and the only thing I could enjoy is the amazing food there. After finishing our brunch, we went to Little Saigon market to buy some ready-made food, vegetables and fruits for dinner. It is convenient and comfortable to live next to Footscray where you can find lots of traditional Vietnamese and Chinese food style. By the way, I don’t recommend anybody to live inside that area even though it is now much safer than a few years ago.


The theme for the end of the year is shopping all night long :)) I have been to some shopping centres and streets to grab some deals with my buddies for a few days. It is said that many Australian retailers are proving worse service with lower discount comparing to last year. Well, it could be true as many shops around just have about 10% or 20% sales in the holiday season. I wish I could be in the US to enjoy those kinds of crazy sales in the year-end like Black Friday or Christmas and New Year Eve. However, I did not buy as much as my friends (those who got a lot of new shoes, clothes and handbags) because the price is not reasonable for me. For you guys who want to buy something cheaper, especially fashion and footwear, Spencer St (inside Southern Cross railway station), Smith St (Collingwood) and Bridge Rd (Richmond) are the places where you can get some good stuff with acceptable price. Tomorrow is the Boxing Day which is the biggest shopping day for Aussies so that I am going to hang out to buy some cosmetics products for my little sister at Myer. I hope I can find some bargain clothing like shirts and jeans for myself, too. But it will be a hard day with the crowd.

It’s me for another weekend blog entry. It’s getting colder outside even though summer is already in the town. After nearly 5 months living here. I could see that the weather in Melbourne is not stable at all. In fact, it’s keep changing with few raining days, low temperature follow by some other sunny and dry days. However, I wish the weather will be a bit of cold on Christmas. That’s would be better for a holiday.

I just finished my presentation for Strategy intensive Saturday class and everything was seemed to be fine. We, as a group of 3 members, present a business case study about Starbucks in the US and give the company some analysis as well as recommendations for future actions. We answered all the questions with logical explanation from our research and our classmates liked it. Anyway, it’s just my own idea. We need to wait for result from the lecturer so see how we go. To be honest, I expect to get high grade for this presentation and report. Hopefully it’s not too arrogant :D

Because I would have about 10 days off from the school for year-end holiday so there will be some other presentations next week to carry out. Somewhat the studying schedule makes me really tired when the semester has been made shorter. I hope all the group work will pass soon so I can prepare for individual assignments within my time and effort.

Finally, I will attend the Graduation Ceremony in RMIT Melbourne next Wednesday, December 14th 2011. Must be a very exciting day. I will keep you updated by posting pictures on my Facebook. If you have free time, it would be great if you check my profile regularly.

First, this is a freaking busy week for me with group assignments due all the time. Personally I like to do individual work which I could spend and control my own time and idea for it. In addition, I take all responsibility for my outcome so no regret after submitting the final version. One thing to be added is that I don’t want the conflicts between team members to increase very single day. Well, I have been taught some techniques to solve conflicts effectively in school but I’m sure that in many situations, those methods are just crap. This week I have to carry out a presentation and report for intensive Strategy class on Saturday, then another presentation next week for People and Organisations subject. In brief, I’m pretty busy and tired at the moment. I hope I will recover soon after enjoying the 2-week-holiday with Marketing and Corporate Governance assessments at home  :(

Second, I’m having trouble with the school about my eligibility to attend this year Graduation Ceremony. I guess that they did it wrongly as I was certified from RMIT Vietnam and I’m currently studying Master program. I just wonder how I could process to higher education without passing all the courses in my Bachelor degree. Tomorrow is the day to collect the gown and tickets already so everything needs to be done quickly and correctly. Anyway. those assignments above are throwing my time away to complain with the school in time  :-?

Finally, bad news comes in today as the travel ticket price for Myki (what I’m using right now) will be increased next year. According to The Age (2011), “Victorian public transport fares will jump by an average of 8.6 per cent on New Year’s Day, in the biggest one-off impost on commuters in nearly a decade. The price rises – for trains, trams and buses – will in most cases be more than twice the current rate of inflation” (For more information, please visit http://www.theage.com.au/victoria/baillieus-sting-on-commuters-20111205-1ofne.html). Such a bad news for international students who are also paying taxes and bearing higher prices compared to local people here in Australia. The  details are listed in the image below:

It’s December already. People say this is the time for holiday, happiness, family and the loved one. Going around the streets you’ll see the Christmas atmosphere is coming with happy smiles on faces. I will be off from the school for about 10 days to enjoy doing assignments at home while friends are coming back to their hometown with their family :( Anyway, intensive courses could reduce the time and living cost so it is a trade-off. I’m nearly finish the half way back to home. However, I guess I will miss Melbourne a lot. This is such a peaceful and interesting multicultural city to discover. I plan to go to Sydney and some other places when completing the program but still have to see if it is possible.

About one week ago, my buddies at RMIT Vietnam attended their graduation ceremony and I am really sad when the pictures did not include me inside. Actually, I should be with them on the day but once again, the intensive MBA course keeps me staying here for the classes. What a pity! I will participate in graduation ceremony at Etihad stadium but it would not be much fun as I do not know many friends at RMIT Melbourne. Nevertheless, I guess it is how the life should be: unfair, unexpected and unbelievable :)) I just wonder if I come back from Australia next July, will I graduate at RMIT Vietnam? That’s even worse situation. Anyway, I still have to wait.

Currently, I am diving with assignments as we have break time for holiday. One more thing, most of the teachers in this semester are really boring. I just go to the classes to sign the attendance sheet and then leave for doing my own work. Sometimes I wonder why I have to spend a large amount of money to receive bad lecturers like this. Once again, life is never fair.

The last thing I want to express to you is that the exchange rate between AUD and VND is going up high and I hope it would decrease in the middle of the month and I am broke right now :(

How are you guys doing now? I guess that some are fighting with the final exam and the others are enjoying break time or organizing stuff to go back to their hometown. It is definitely not my case because I have completed the first week of my Spring/Summer semester at the time of writing this entry. You may think like I am a hard-working student or crazy enough to take this term but actually, my course is an intensive program which will be finished in one year. That is the reason why I need to take 3 semesters per year. However, I missed 2 classes in the first week as the result of being lazy and sick. This would be never happen again in the next week, let’s try and see :)) Another thing that I need to share with you is that we will have some more short holiday so that many of my assignments are due really early and I need to take lots of intensive classes again. Poor me :(

Meanwhile, I am still hanging around with my buddies to relax after having long study time. Our favourite place is the Cue City, located at Bourke Street, where we can play pool together. Thanks Eddy, Huy, anh Lê and other cool guys for spending time playing billiards 3 times a week with me. I believe that we are close enough to become brothers. Sometimes I do not even think of any location where we could relax for a short period of time as our schedule are quite different. If you know there is such a place, please let me know by navigating to the Contact page. Anyway, I have to admit that there are some cute female staff at Cue City who attract me a lot :D

Another event which seems to be happened regularly in the future is the monthly meet-up with some other old great guys from RMIT Vietnam and their friends. I truly expect a good time with those buddies as they are friendly and cool. We often gather, cook and have fun together at night. I can feel the Vietnamese spirit when enjoying the food and sharing our stories. It is feel like home right here in Australia. I will try to survive tomorrow’s night with them and come to the class as promised above :))

This carnival will happen in Flemington Racecourse that is not too far from my area. Known as “the race that stops a nation”, there would be definitely a lot of people attend this public event. I am impressed by beautiful ladies with gorgeous dresses and colorful flower hats. I think this day is also known as Ladies Day with the fashion show and competition by Myer. Others are also heading for the Racecourse because today is a holiday for most of Victorian citizens. I tried to organize time to buy some stuff but all the sellers are going to Flemington so that I have to wait until tomorrow. I guess that they are quite exited to bet and have some fun there. However, I am not really interested in that because of 2 reasons. First, the weather is not good for partying in the recent days. I read some online articles and it seems to be raining in this day. But it is a good chance for everybody to get familiar with each other as weather is still the best topic to start a conversation with. Second, I do not like to go to a place where there are too many people and noisy things. It is fun, but not my type.
